Barred From Teaching Checks: this can only be done for those actively delivering teaching as a teacher, therefore it applies to all teachers, all unqualified teachers. It does NOT apply to teaching assistants with the exception of those teaching assistants who are used to provide PPA cover or to provide teaching cover for whole class timetabled teaching week delivery.

Portability of Enhanced DBS certificates: Individual employees can opt into the DBS Update Service (see page paragraph 107 of the Keeping Children Safe in Education (2016) guidance. There is no requirement (unless the School, or Local Authority’s own safeguarding and or safer recruitment policy states otherwise) to conduct an enhanced DBS check on new starters who in the three months immediately prior to their commencement of employment have worked in a school or institute of further education where their role brought the person regularly into contact with children or young persons (see page 28, paragraph 105 of Keeping Children Safe in Education (2016) guidance.
